Mannel Acquires Renwood Milling Operations and Bakery Mix Plant as well as Sanford Milling Brands
September 2, 2022
We are excited to announce that Renwoods Mills, LLC is now officially Mannel Milling & Bakery Mix – Newton, North Carolina, effective September 1, 2022.
The Mannel Milling Company acquired the remaining 50% of Renwood Mills from Plaza Belmont and will have complete control and oversight of all operations moving forward, including the mill and bakery mix plant. Mannel initially entered into a joint venture agreement with Plaza Belmont, a private equity group, in March 2016 to jointly operate Renwood Mills, LLC, formerly Midstate Mills.
Like Mannel, the Newton facility has a long history. The location includes an 80-year-old flour milling and mix facility with a daily capacity of 7,500 cwts. The experienced food manufacturing operators at the site will continue to produce a variety of private label retail products, custom flour and corn based foodservice mixes, and wholesale bulk flour.
As part of the transaction, Mannel agreed to sell the branded portion of the Renwood business to Homegrown Family Foods, LLC, a consumer branded products company based in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. The acquired retail and foodservice brands include Southern Biscuit™, Tenda-Bake™, RediMix™, Formula L™, and Nancy Jane™.
In August, Mannel acquired the business interests of the Sanford Milling Company, Inc. in Henderson, North Carolina, including Snow Flake™ and Daily Bread™ brands, as well as the production of all Sanford Milling products, which have been moved to Mannel Milling and Bakery Mix facilities in North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.
“The Newton team and assets as well as the Sanford business are welcomed additions to Mannel Milling,” said D. Ford Mannel, Fifth-Generation President of The Mannel Milling Company. “Opportunities like these allow the Mannel family of products and services to continue to strategically grow and meet the needs of our valued customers around the globe.”
Bradley Saine, a lifelong Newton resident, will lead the Mannel Newton team in his new role as Plant Manager. He is committed to continuing the 80-year tradition of milling soft red wheat in Catawba County, North Carolina.
